Event: Undocumented Migrant Women in Europe - A Neglected Chapter in Fundamental Rights Protection

European Network of Migrant Women invites you to the event "Undocumented Migrant Women in Europe: A Neglected Chapter in Fundamental Rights Protection" that will take place on 23 June 2022 at 14h-16:30h CET, at the Brussels Press Club.

Undocumented migrant women are one of the most vulnerable groups, finding themselves at the intersection of multiple forms of systemic discrimination, and violence . Even though the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU guarantees protection of fundamental rights for everyone on the territories of EU, undocumented migrant women are excluded from this protection de facto, as well as de jure.

During the COVID pandemic, in partnership with legal firms of TrustLaw (Thomson Reuters Foundation), ENoMW conducted a legal mapping on undocumented migrant women's access to fundamental rights in nine European countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Spain, Sweden and Greece) as well as EU level. The report also examines access to rights of four groups at risk of losing documented status, (women asylum seekers, migrant women victims of domestic violence, women victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation and female domestic workers). We now would like to share results of this study in the seminar where we will present the key observations from our report, and where expert speakers will exchange on the legal commitments as well as actual barriers undocumented migrant women face in accessing their rights and justice in Europe.

Among our guests speakers will be representatives of CoE Gender Equality Unit, LIBE Committee of the European Parliament, European Commission and legal experts and lawyers working with undocumented migrant women in France, Italy and Belgium.

NOTE: This is a hybrid event and you can attend both in-person and online. Interpretation from English to French and Spanish will be provided for online attendees.
