On 11th October 2023, European Network of Migrant Women (ENoMW) sent a letter to the members of the UN Human Rights Council, Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights, its Special Procedures Branch, as well as a number of special procedures themselves.
The letter, opened for signatures on 10th October 2023 and signed by 220 civil society national organisations and regional and national platforms of organisations raises concerns and demands an urgent action regarding the publication titled "Eliminating discrimination against sex workers and securing their human rights", produced in September 2023 by the experts of the UN Working group (WG) on discrimination against women and girls – a special procedure within the purview of OHCHR.
As human rights groups representing the interests of women and girls directly affected by sexual exploitation, and, in the context of escalating wars and conflicts that exponentially increase the vulnerability of girls and women to the gross human rights violations of sex trafficking and exploitation of prostitution, we intend to monitor closely the reaction of the Council states, High Commissioner and Special Procedures Branch on this matter.
The letter remains open for signatures for other organisations to join.
